The idea of the site is to build a community of South Africans currently living or working abroad were we can get together so we can share ideas and talk all things South African.
I’ve been living abroad for quite a while now and found that there was a need for certain things and/or luxuries we had when we lived in South Africa. Being South African the first thing that hit me was the food, It did not quite taste the same as what I was use to and there was always something’s missing from our usual shopping lists, Mrs Ball's Chutney, Ouma’s Rusk’s was among some of them… That was when I decided to go on a “mission”. A “mission” to see where I can find some real South African Produce...
My expedition not only revealed a South African Shop ran by our fellow country men and women but also a couple of local butchers that sold Boerewors, Sosaties, even droewors and biltong. Word soon spread among my fellow South Africans and more South African shops popped up in and around my area. That is when I came up with this idea. If I was able to find places in a small Island called Ireland then there must be more places around the world that has the same. So this is the main Idea of the site not only to promote South African Living. But also as a guide to where we can find South African produce…
I now have all the South African products but still we missed a crucial element…
The recipes for some of, not only my favourite dishes but also for some recipes I was able to get my non South African friends to tuck into. Thus in this site you’ll find some of my tried and tested recipes for some South African dishes we loved and some even hated.
Last word: I honestly hope that all of you will enjoy the site and find my input interesting and helpful. Any suggestions to the site or content that you might have feel free to contact me I’ll try to answer as soon as possible.
